When you’re a principal you have lots of things to worry about. Take Anujit Kaur — principal of the Sector 16 Government Model Senior Secondary School — she used to worry about the school buses — where they were and how they were being driven. But not anymore!
Now she can check their precise location on the GPS tracking system. Tarlochan Singh, the bus contractor, explains that after the Delhi incident he decided to get his buses tagged for GPS/GPRS tracking. He initially tagged two as an experiment and when that has worked well, he went on to tag every one of his ten buses.
The GPS system opens up a lot of possibilities. For instance – for fifty rupees a month, a parent can get an SMS alert about the bus. The system even reports the speed at which the bus is travelling. If the driver is speeding, he can be sent a warning. The system also calculates the exact mileage. Principal Anujit Kaur is very happy with the GPS system.
The new GPS tagging has taken care of the school buses. Now just imagine that the kids themselves could be tagged and tracked on GPS every single minute. Wouldn’t every principal and parent love that!
